Block2H: High Performance Athlete Co-op (HPA)

The High Performance Athlete (HPA) Co-op Program is tailored to meet the learning needs of student-athletes who are committed to focusing on their long-term academic and career objectives while accommodating competitive sport training requirements.

This specialized program is designed for student-athletes who are training and competing at the provincial, national, international (or equivalent) level for a minimum of 15 hours per week, during the school year.

In the HPA Co-op Program, students will apply and demonstrate the knowledge and skills acquired in school to their training setting.  A co-op teacher will work with HPA co-op students to set long and short term goals, reflect on athletic performance, and make meaningful academic connections to their sport.  Students will complete learning modules aimed to promote knowledge and habits that are required of high performance athletes. Athletes will also be responsible for providing their teacher with training logs that have been verified by coaches.

Criteria for acceptance into HPA coop is based upon:

- the number of hours committed to training
-
the level of competition
the training season and schedule
-
the learning needs of each student

For consideration, students must complete and submit the High Performance Athlete (HPA) Co-Operative Education Program Application and Coach’s Referral Form. These will be evaluated by a panel to determine program eligibility.

Prerequisites:
- Student-athletes are required to be training/competing at the provincial, national, international, and/or equivalent level
-
Completing a minimum of 15 hours of training per week.
-
Proof of insurance (team and personal) will also be required.

Please Note*
- Due to potentially high demand for this program, and limited spaces available, preference may need to be given to students who require the credits to reach graduation on time.

Credit Potential: Student-athletes can earn 1 secondary school co-op credit per semester, with a maximum of 2 credits per year
